All of the world feel in love with the American singer-songwriter, John Legend, on August 12, 2013, when he released his hit love ballad, “All of Me,” off his fourth studio album Love In The Future. The song was meet with many positive responses, and to this day fans and listeners still find the single to be very emotional and powerful. The song is dedicated to Legends wife, Chrissy Teigan, and he sings about how much he loves her and will stick by her through everything.
The song is played through by a slow piano that follows along with the lyrics and flow well throughout. The first verse starts with him talking about her smart mouth, and how he cannot seem to pin her down or predict her next move. During the pre-chorus, he says, “My head’s under water / But I’m breathing fine / You’re crazy and I’m out of my mind.” He is in love with her so much that even if he feels like he is trapped under the water, he can still breath. During the chorus, he talks about how all of him, loves all of her; all of her imperfections, edges and curves. If she is willing to give all of her to him, then he will for sure give all of himself to her. The second verse is made up of the emotion filled lyrics of, “How many times do I have to tell you / Even when you’re crying you’re beautiful too / The world is beating you down, I’m around through every mood / You’re my downfall, you’re my muse / My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues / I can’t stop singing, it’s ringing, in my head for you.” He wants her to know that even when she might not look runway ready, she is still beautiful, and that she is his ups and his downs. The remainder of the song is the chorus, and a small bridge where he talks about them risking it all for their love.
John Legend was widely known before this chart topper came into his career, but this is the song that made him become a household name. His love for his wife flows into the ears of all listeners of the single, “All of Me.”
