Jeremih – Don’t Tell Em (Feat. YG)

On June 6, of 2014, Chicago rapper, Jeremih released the lead single, “Don’t Tell Em (Feat. YG),” off his third studio album Late Nights, that is to be released in 2015. With this song, there is not a big difference from what Jeremih has perviously released, nor what we see in the majority of today’s hit music. This song is only focused on one thing, and that one thing just so happens to be a girl, and sex.

The part of the song that will probably be stuck in your head is the pre-chorus and the hook, and that is, “Only it’s you got me feeling like this / Oh why, why, why, why / Loving while grabbing the rhythm of your hips / That’s right, right, right, right, right / Rhythm is a dancer, I need a companion / Girl, I guess that must be you / Body like the summer, f**k it like no other / Don’t you tell ’em what we do / Don’t tell ‘em / Don’t tell ‘em / You ain’t even / Don’t tell ‘em / Don’t tell ‘em / You ain’t even / You ain’t even gotta tell ‘em (x2).” That is the only part of the song that stays in my head, as it is very catchy and repetitive, as they do sing this four times in the song.

The first two verses of the song, are not that bad, they do talk a lot about sex, but they are not that vulgar, nor do they explain much. The third verse on the other hand, is rapped by YG, and let me just tell you that it is very descriptive. Very. For example, “On my late-night thirsty, ’cause it was late-night and I was thirsty / Girl, I been to that county girl, I ain’t telling / Handcuff me to the bed, girl, it ain’t no bailing / I keep a stack of hundreds like I keep a secret.” And that is probably the cleanest part of that verse. Now I’m not saying that it is wrong to sing/rap about that, it’s just way overdone.

Although the song is very catchy and has a great beat to it, the topic and the focus is what we see too often now in music.
