October 21st, 2014 was the day that Meghan Trainor released her second single Lips Are Moving. This is the second single to be released off of Meghan’s debut album Title.
This is a very upbeat pop song that is talking about being lied to by your man, and that he is cheating and denying that he is.
So the song starts off with regular pop vocals, then we get into the rapping. Yes, I said rapping…It sure is interesting…
The majority of the song is repeated throughout, the only thing that changes are the first and second verse of the song.
In the first chorus, where the rapping first emerges, it talks about how she knows that she cannot be replaced, but that is exactly what he is trying to do. It also says how he is so full of something and it is not love for her, “You really think I could be replaced / Nah, I come from outer space / And I’m a classy girl, I’m a hold it up / You’re full of something but it ain’t love,” (www.azlyrics.com). This is often the truth and the whole truth in cheating relationships. The guy is totally full of bs.
The pre-chorus of the song is where she highlights what happens in some of the common cheating relationships, “You can buy me diamond earrings and deny-ny-ny, ny-ny-ny, deny-ny / But I smell her on your collar so goodbye-bye-bye, bye-bye-bye,” (www.azlyrics.com). Most often (I have no experience in this but from what I have seen), a guy who is cheating will deny that he is being unfaithful to his girl, and will possibly try to deceive her with buying her gifts or spending more time with her. With that, the girl will sometimes piece it all together and find that he smells a little different than normal. Basically meaning that he has a woman’s perfume lingering on him that is not her perfume.
Along with that, the chorus also shows how the girl feels when the guy is denying the infidelity and making her think she is crazy, “I know you lie / ’Cause your lips are moving / Tell me do you think I’m dumb? / I might be young, but I ain’t stupid,” (www.azlyrics.com). Often times a girl will know, without even needing a clue, and when he starts denying it she basically feels that he is thinking that she is stupid and that she will never figure it out until he tells her.
In the second verse is where it is said that the guy only loves you when he is with you, other than that he is focused on someone else, “Hey, baby, don’t you bring them tears / ‘Cause it’s too late, too late, baby / You only love me when you’re here / You’re so two-faced, two-faced, babe,” (www.azlyrics.com). The guy is two-faced and a liar. That is the just of it.
So although the world is still dealing with the overplayed All About That Bass, we now have a new Meghan Trainor single to listen to and that will probably be stuck in everyone’s heads.
